Our History
Bodem, which means “soil” in Dutch, truly symbolizes the origin of this winery with Dutch roots. After more than 25 years working and living for and for Spanish wine, the Geirnaerdt-van Ekeris family found in Cariñena the place to which they felt deeply attached. That is why Bodem is not another winery but a firm commitment to Spanish wine, with the Garnacha variety and, ultimately, with a dream.
Why Cariñena?
Marga slopes in the Sierra de Algairén. Grey, arid and eroded lands, where the elegant Garnacha finds its little paradise. Cariñena is the great unknown beyond the Spanish borders; the forgotten cradle and birthplace of the Garnacha grape, where the variety has been cultivated since before the 3rd century BC
Vineyard
• Bio control and manual cultivation
• Family vineyards of local winegrowers
• Selection of the best vineyards in the Sierra de Algairén
• Average altitude between 450 and 725 meters

Vinification
• Vinification in 2 phases:
• One part ferments in whole clusters and with stems
• Another part is lightly squeezed and destemmed, macerated prefermentative of 5 days and ferments with autochthonous yeasts
• Maturation in 3 phases:
• 25% of the wine matures in barrels
• Another 25%, matures in ovoid deposits
• The remaining 50% matures in stainless steel tanks
• Final coupage, during the spring
Tasting note
The arid climate and rugged soils of the Sierra de Algairén are all that the Garnacha grape needs: plenty of sun and the exact amount of minerals. Las Margas is the reflection of all this. Fruit quality, complexity, freshness and a velvety texture make up a vibrant and generous wine.
